How things have changed within just the span of a month. From watching British Premier League with rapt attention to anticipating the Champions League final. From assignments to final semester exams. From 2 bassists to what is now, with effect from Saturday (23rd May '09), 3 bassists.
I realise that I am having trouble sleeping as easily as I used to. I sense a deeper change in character. I am not what I used to be, and I am in the process of evaluating whether this is for better or for worse. Change does not bode well with me, yet it is necessary for growth & maturity. Once again, I feel as though I'm distancing myself from others. Am I, though? From past experiences, I've gleaned that aloofness is my natural mechanism in response to uncertain situations or indeed, what I now realise to be insecurity. Are situations revolving around me unclear at present? Am I insecure? My communication skills are rudimentary, to say the least. Does this play a part? Man, what does God think of me? God may be in the driving seat, but if I'm really sincere and trust God to drive, I should stop backseat driving!
Anyway, moving on to updates - a few notable things have happened since the last post. There was night cycling (it actually happened), for one. The story unveils itself in a somewhat gilt-edged narrative in a series of three photo albums titled "Race To Mizzy's Corner", uploaded courtesy of Jason Ang on Facebook. I did not get to ride my bike though I wish I had now that the event is over. Must be becoming over-reliant on my luxurious quad-link full suspension frame, however cheap a brand it might originate from. I have learnt never to rent bikes from the shop next to the prawning/fishing/lobster-catching place at East Coast Park. Two of the rented bikes were damaged and could not be ridden further. Two words succintly summarises the rental bikes - they sucked. Period. Finito. Finite Incantatem.
Xiao Gwen's 21st celebration was a hoot. Another photo album courtesy of Jason Ang is uploaded on Facebook. It was held a day before Mother's Day (it was a Saturday). I missed the starting part as I had to get my mum a present for Sunday, but joined up with a throughly blindfolded Gwen and her tormentors at Plaza Sing. We eventually got to SMU Settler's Cafe, and enjoyed every single step of the way. After which seven people demonstrated how to turn a yellow Honda Jazz (Penguin Express) into an MPV. Bene. Glamour shots taken from the roof of the Penguin Express will appear on Facebook in due time.
Yesterday (23rd May '09) saw the debut of a successful disciple of the bass during praise. Granted, I told Yeongdeng to keep things simple for now (which was why some distinctive chops were missing), but in time to come, I am sure that there will be marked improvementin his playing. Do please jiayou, disciple!
There was a musician's retreat earlier on today, at Sentosa. Would have thoroughly enjoyed myself if not for an allergic reaction (rashes) appearing all over my torso. I am suprised at my reaction to involuntarily getting wet. At the very least, it was a demonstration of what few have, and will ever see - a seething Rayson lol! However, you have my assurance that any animosities generated were temporary. ^^
It's exam period! This semester will officially be over on Monday (1st June '09). I should be taking my bike for long solitary night rides to blow away the cobwebs (stress relief). I look forward to it. Letting God be God is definitely far more difficult than I'd like to give it credit for.
