1st Day (081011)

It's been an incredibly long first day. To epitomise starting the day right, there was a drama on the way to Changing Airport Terminal 1! What's the worst mistake to make even before your journey overseas has really started? That's absolutely right - I forgot to bring my passport! Thank God my maid was able to find it in my room and cab down to the airport to save my hide!

The journey to Dubai wasn't bad, just rather uneventful. Dubai International Terminal was impressively light and airy, but was full of what I suspect were Taiwanese people lying around conversing loudly. The Chinese're everywhere! Eek.

The journey from Dubai to Madrid however, sucked! I wasn't in an aisle seat. And some sleeping stranger was in the aisle seat blocking my way. To compound matters, halfway through the flight, I began to feel the need to purge my bladder very urgently! Unlike someone i know, i don't have an iron bladder lol! So I tried to distract myself by reading. Bad move. I started to feel very sick after that, so I had an unrestful sleep most of the rest of the way. Felt nauseous after the food I forced down, pah! I suppose that by the time I touched down, I looked rather green lol!

Madrid airport was really nice! It had a really spacious feel to it. Interesting ceiling architecture. Went to the Hotel Medium Cortezo, which was near the Metro station Tirso de Molina, via an airport shuttle bus. It was really comfortable! Our bus driver drove like Sebastien Vettel though! =/ We swayed around bends and overtook other miserable cars relentlessly! After a shower and short rest, we went via the Metro to Atocha Renfe station to activate our tickets for the inter-city ride for the next day.

Then it was back on the Metro to Sol station, just one stop from Tirso De Molina, where things were beginning to hot up on a Saturday evening! I was like, whoa! For the first time, I actually understood what a thronging crowd meant! The main square was throbbing with the festive energy of hundreds, if not thousands of people!

After a couple of pictures with statues and fountains, we walked around (quite slowly i might add!) in search of dinner. Everyone was like, "Anything, anything!", and so we ended up having a lousy meal of kebab. *makes face* Mum was kinda angsty then - it was all beef instead of chicken 'cos Dad and I made a mistake ordering... So we went shopping after that and mum got a hot wings meal from IFC to supplement her meager fare at dinner.

Subsequently, we passed two Springfield boutiques! That reminded me of Veron, who works as a brand manager, I think? For Springfield? We stepped into a Sfera boutique after that. I bought two nice tees (one was burgundy-ish and the other was a darker shade of green. Woohoo, green, bahaha! =P) as well as a shimmery but understated grey and blue skinny tie. Wanted to buy a pair of brown corduroy pants too, but they were the skinny kind - certainly not for me and my huge thighs and ass! =P Pity though, the material was really nice! Subsequently, we went into this shoe shop, Lola Rey. Saw white Weinbrener, Lacoste, Diesel shoes, and many many different sneakers! Thought of Buttercup. ^^ Wendy, one of our traveling companions (more like our tour guide lol!), wanted to visit a Camper shop but if was late, and just admitted it's final customer. Tough luck, but there's always tomorrow!

Standing all around were buskers galore doing their nut! Cartoon characters (Storm Troopers, Micky Mouse, even Hello Kitty hahaha! And i'm pretty sure the person wearing that costume was a guy!), statues, art groups, comedians, and musicians abounded, helping to create a rousing atmosphere. Of course, there was the constant fear of being pick pocketed, but so pleasant was the temperature, and so buzzy was the atmosphere, that I left that nagging subconscious feeling behind after a while.

After that, it was back to the hotel after a pleasant evening. Hope I can get something for my favorite people back home soon! Oh and I just looked in the mirror? My eyes're really red and tired. Looking forward to a good night's rest - more than 8 hours! Want to feel fresh as the proverbial daisy tomorrow morning. Good night! ^^
