Hola! The third day is upon all of us here at Seville, Spain. ^^ I didn't sleep very well last night - didn't have a bolster-like object to hug to sleep is why, but nay, I ought not to complain. There'll be time enough for that near the end of the journey!
As per normal, I got up at eight, and we left the room at nine thirty to forage. We ended up just around the street corner at a big restaurant-like place for breakfast. It was kind of chilly after the night, but still warm enough (just!) to warrant wearing shorts and a t-shirt out in anticipation of the heat of the day. I wanted something hot so after much deliberation, I got myself an espanola tortilla sandwich roll, and I daresay that though I had to wait longer than the rest for my food, it was well worth the wait 'cause it was nice and warm when it came~ *self-pat* The rest... *shakes head* Anyway, in English, it's a Spanish omelette sandwich roll, and the tortilla in the baguette is made up of eggs and potatoes and pieces of red capsicum. It still wasn't as hot as I would've liked it to be? But it had a pleasant taste (how wrong can you go with potatoes, eggs and bread?) and I was quite satisfied after I was done with the meal. No hot chocolate this time though? That's just too bad 'cause hot chocolate in Spain is always thick and sticky and amazing. =D
Following that, we stopped back at the hotel for a bit, then we went to the cathedral for to look around. Well, mostly to take pictures anyway. ^^" Seville is a really unique place and the cathedral was no exception? There were lots of Muslim influences evident in the architecture, then when it was taken over by the Catholics, they added stuff here and there so it's a weird but very beautiful hodgepodge of different cultures. I got in for two euros because I forgot to repack my wallet before leaving Singapore and happened to bring my student ID along lol! There ARE some benefits of being forgetful eh? =P
Anyway the cathedral was really huge and elaborately decorated on the inside. It was full of intricately carved domes and towering arches and pillars. There were loads of sculptures and paintings too, not to mention an incredible huge pipe organ that I had some difficulty getting into a picture! I don't really intend to say very much about this place? What actually struck me about it was how much money was stuck in pictures and elaborate fittings. I don't know really, maybe it's just me, but I feel that all that money over the years could've been put to better use. I AM glad that I got to see it though! There was a thirty-five story bell tower (the name of which escapes me!) that we climbed up in there and there was a square spiral ramp all the way up. No stairs! The tower's really intriguing - it has a foundation made of Roman stones, a midsection (the whole ramp section) made in the Muslim style, and a Western bell-tower top lol! Frankly, the place was just an excuse to make use of my pretty nice Panasonic camera~
We had lunch after that, pizza and sandwiches at a little corner shop under the building we were staying at. Learnt some food names! The pizza flavor was "carne", which I believe was "meat-lover's" in English lol! I also had batidos helados y chocolate. Batidos means "shake" in this context, apparently, helados means ice-cream or milk, I believe, and so put together, it simply means that I had a chocolate milkshake. The pizza was nice, especially the crust! It was thin and quite crispy. The milkshake sucked. -.-" Diluted and overly milky.
Went on a guided walking tour after that to the market museum and the Castle of Alcazar. The name of the castle sounds terrifying, but it's a really beautiful place. The Muslim architecture was highly intricate, saw the King and Queen's bedrooms in the place but to me, I wouldn't like to stay in a place like that at all, it's way too big! It had a really big garden too, impressively stocked with a strutting peacock and accompanying peahens (okay, maybe it was that I only saw one peacock, that's why!). Went into this underground place that was the coolest in Seville, without the help of air-conditioning, of course. Now let me tell you, I loved that place and had no desire at all to leave - the weather was unbearable then. And you know all those pretty cloudless blue skies that people who've been to Europe harp about? It simply means that there's no cloud cover and the sun BEATS down on as if God bore a grudge against you. Now beat that lol! There's lots more, but it's hard to actually say it all in words? But if you're interested, you can ask me when I get back or browse through the Facebook pictures once I upload them, which will only happen after I get back too. =P
Had a dinner at a cafeteria near the main shopping street of Seville. The food was terrible! Everything we ordered was really salty and was made, I think, to go well to gather with tapas. I like savoury food, but even their fare was beyond my limit - I was as hungry as Peter before that (hurhur!), but it put me off my feed for the entire night! D= Eyeing the granola bars that I spirited off the flight from Dubai to Madrid now hehs... ^^
It was to the Flamenco show just near our hotel after that. Staying in the city center certainly has it's benefits - everything's a stone's throw away! The show was really well put together. The dancers were really forceful with their percussive tap dances, and highly spirited. The singer was an older lady, and her voice wasn't pleasant to my ears, but maybe it was because she was singing in a language I didn't understand, or that it was uniquely Spanish, so to speak! As can be expected, the guitarist was incredible! Spanish fingerstyle you know? I wasn't supposed to take a video, but I did at a short section so I'll upload that on Facebook too.
That just about concludes today. I think you can tell it's a bit rushy? That's because I want to sleep soon. Not feeling well and my nose is stuffy (I rather think that the heat's getting to me!), so I'd appreciate it if any of you shoot me a prayer. Muchas gracias eh? Guess I'll sign off now then - I'll be back with more tomorrow! Good night! ^^
