Hope is intangible. Like faith and love, it cannot be beheld with the five senses. Yet it is ingrained so deeply within the fibre of our being that we cannot help but respond to it. Hope is a wonderful thing that can buoy our flagging spirits, and help sustain positive attitudes.
False hope is a whole different kettle of fish. The spoken word can communicate hope to a certain degree. Be careful that what you say does not harbour a hope which cannot come to pass - it is the multiplier to that crushing sense of defeat when the stark reality of a situation reveals itself. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"? Myth busted.
