By no means a meaningful post, but still.. It's raining today, a light shower. I love the rain when I've nothing to do outside and am staying home. Instills such a comfortable, secure, sleepy feeling. I suppose cavemen used to feel like that - safe, dry, protected from the driving wind and rain.
We've just traded natural amenities for man-made ones. Houses are just like caves in terms of shelter, if you can accept a three-storey crop of rock with windows and stairs! We've traded the fire for air-conditioners (Can't decide which is more harmful to the environment! =P), we've traded hunting and looking for edible greenery in the wild to hunting for food in supermarkets, we've traded animal skins for fabricated clothing (leather loincloths have somewhat more panache, don't you just think so? =D), we've traded rude flutes for guitars and pianos, we've traded herbs for medicine and surgery.
Our needs are the same, but technology develops so quickly, you've got to "run as fast as you can to stay in the same place". Food for thought as I deign to take a nap. The Red Queen Theory.
