Hey all you good folk (honestly, why do I update? So few peruse this page!), I touched down at ten to six on Saturday evening, and I was really glad to be back home! I doubt I'll ever forget how to speak Mandarin, but English'll always be my first language.
Fujian and Chaozhou weren't really spectacular. As I said, I only agreed to go that I may be able to see my ancestral hometowns. Well, the villages have mostly been gobbled up by ever-expanding cities. But it was meaningful anyway. It's said that many Chaozhou people migrated to Singapore a long time ago and it kinda shows in the faces? A fair few people that I saw could certainly pass off as Singaporeans. The food was really similar to what we have here in Singapore as well, much unlike the food in the more northern regions of China.
I was most interested in the tour of the Hakka mud buildings at Yong Ding (en route from Xiamen to Dapu). The construction principles were really outstanding and rather ingenious. The Lim village was turned into a sort of heritage exhibition site, but it was still filled to the brink with loads of Lim families staying there. I had a great experience there.
Of course, I blogged into my iPad everyday, but there was no free WiFi to be found at any place, so I couldn't post them here on Blogger. Mum and Dad're still in China, at Hainan. I came back first because I wasn't interested in going to any other part of China, and because there were music rehearsals at church. The posts aren't finished because I need the pictures (the camera's still with Mum and Dad) to jog my memory of certain events that unfolded during the trip. This post, therefore, is a filler LOL! But fret not, for while they mayn't be as detailed as the account of Spain, they're certainly more descriptive than what I've written in this post. In any case, I'd like the pictures to be up on Facebook at around the same time.
Alright, It's really late now, and I need to wake up a little bit earlier to practice for tomorrow's rehearsal so I'll be signing off here. 'Til we meet again!
