It's been more than two weeks into 2012. Increasingly busy times are forecasted as we move further into the new year. I think my LifeGroupmates will bear testament to this. People will variously start internships, get into work, start swotting, move into the next phase... Yet God reserved one glorious golden weekend for us where everyone was free. And in a flash, what was to become a most memorable event was organised. The venue? Kukup.
From a personal point of view, I have no great love for this semi-obscure part of the Malaysian shoreline. While accommodation is usually relatively clean, the surrounding waters are muddy and polluted (they even reek at some spots!), the weather is hot and humid, mosquitoes abound, the food is nothing remarkable, and unless you bring your own forms of entertainment, much of the time (other than eating, playing mahjong, singing karaoke, and, if you're fortunate, fishing) will be spent on vapid swatting and perspiration. As I see it, the only thing going for it is the view at sunrise and sunset!
What really matters if you're going to Kukup is the people you're going with. People who're fun and easygoing and enjoy each others' company are the sort you would want to have along for just such a getaway. And to a certain extent, that describes my LifeGroup. The result was a chill and enjoyable weekend planned around a celebration of one of our members' birthdays. While we tried (and mostly failed!) to surprise her, I believe that just the sharing on the first night made the entire trip worthwhile - everthing else that we did (playing mahjong, taboo, big two, taking jump shots, shooting fireworks, launching floating lanterns etc.) was a bonus to me. No matter how much better our accommodation could have been, if it didn't have that sharing, it would've been for naught!
I had a great time of bonding with my LifeGroup over a divinely purposed weekend - the last before the year begins to reveal it's nasty slave-driver persona. I may be really tired now, but I don't really give a hoot because I haven't had such a good time with a biggish bunch for a long time now. Thank God for it! I must get some rest now - pictures will soon be up on Facebook, courtesy of DJ Sporkey, who took a lovely load of lovely pictures with his lovely camera. Hopefully, I'll blog again sooner rather than later. Goodnight people! ^^
